Loras Announces Change in Leadership to Men's Basketball Program

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - Director of Athletics Denise Udelhofen announced on Tuesday, March 1 that Head Men's Basketball Coach Greg Gorton has been relieved of his duties effective immediately.

"We are grateful to Greg for his service and dedication to the men's basketball program over the past 13 years, both as a head coach and as an assistant," Udelhofen said.

Under Gorton's direction, Loras had a 53-74 record in the past five seasons, missing the Iowa Conference Tournament on three occasions. In the other two seasons, the Duhawks failed to win its opening round games at home.

Current Associate Head Men's Basketball Coach and Head Men's Golf Coach Buddy Sodemann has been named Interim Head Coach and will continue in that role until a new head coach has been named.

As of January 2016, Loras is the highest ranked Iowa Conference school in the Learfield Directors' Cup Standings. With 182.50 points, the Duhawks sit in 21st place out of 450 Division III institutions.

Loras will conduct a nationwide search for its next men's basketball coach beginning immediately.
