CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The 2017 Men's Soccer All-Iowa Conference Team was announced on Wednesday with the tournament champions receiving five selections and two honorable mentions.
Loras won its eighth IIAC Tournament in program history and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 12th time since 2005. It was the first tournament championship for the Duhawks awarded via penalties.
Sophomore
Mark Broderick elevated his game in his second go-round with the Purple & Gold, scoring eight goals and one assist, including a pair of braces against Wartburg and St. Scholastica. In eight conference matches, Broderick was second on the team with seven points via three goals and an assist.
Senior
Ike Bruns earned his first postseason honor from the Iowa Conference after finishing with three assists from his defensive midfielder post. During Loras' 10-match unbeaten streak, the Duhawks have limited opponents 51 shots on target, for an average of 5.1 per match.
St. Viator prep and senior
Spencer Moore earned his third Iowa Conference distinction following a three-goal, five-assist campaign, which brought his career total to 43 points with 12 goals and 19 assists. Three of Moore's five assists came in league matches.
Junior
Javi Simon made quite the splash in his first season with the Duhawks after transferring from UW-Oshkosh, totaling 11 goals and two assists for 24 points. In eight conference matches, Simon netted five goals and added a pair of assists, including the match-winner against Simpson.
Three-year starter and senior
Jacob Peterson earned his third All-Conference selection after surpassing the 40-win mark for his career as a goalkeeper. The Fenwick prep recorded career-bests for saves this season with 84 and moved into second all-time at Loras with 18 clean sheets. During Loras' 10-match unbeaten streak, Peterson is 8-0-1 with a 0.61 goals against average.
Earning honorable mention distinction for the Duhawks in 2017 was the defending dynamic duo of junior
Ryan Pacholski and sophomore
Miles McDonnell.
Pacholski and McDonnell worked in tandem this season, shutting down opposing forwards on a regular basis. In the regular season, Loras' defense shut out six of the eight teams' top scorers, all coming in the Duhawks' six wins. Offensively, McDonnell added two goals and two assists for six points while Pacholski earned one helper.
Loras travels to Minneapolis, Minn. this weekend for the First and Second Round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championships. The Duhawks face Cal Lutheran in the First Round, meeting the Kingsmen for the first time in program history.
