Duhawks Battle to Steal Road Win at Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's basketball team won it's fifth straight game with a 75-71 win over Elmhurst on Saturday. Senior Cyerra Hutchins paced the Duhawk offense with 16 points while adding seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.

- Loras now owns the series record 10-1 and have won the last eight straight meetings

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
- The Duhawks started the game with tough defense as Loras forced two turnovers in the Bluejay's first two possessions
- Elmhurst took it's first lead of the game after a 10-0 run for a 12-4 lead
- With two minutes remaining in the quarter, the Duhawks went on a 7-2 run to climb back within four
- Loras regained its lead after starting the second quarter on an 11-0 run, with four points coming courtesy of senior Addie Oberman
- With four minutes remaining in the half, Elmhurst responded with an 11-2 run of their own to pull within two before the break
- Sophomore Riley Eckhart ended an 8-0 Bluejay run with a made shot from outside the arc, assisted by freshman Marissa Schroeder
- With 8:30 remaining in regulation, Eckhart knocked down her fourth 3-pointer of the day for a six-point Duhawk advantage
- Facing a three-point deficit with a minute remaining in regulation, Hutchins went off the glass for two followed by 3-pointer by Oberman with 26 seconds on the clock as Loras took a 73-71 lead
- Strong defense from Loras in Elmhurst's next possession forced a turnover and Hutchins headed to the line after being fouled and knocked down both shots to seal the Duhawks 75-71 victory on the road

TEAM NOTABLES
- From 1:05 in the first quarter to 3:37 in the second quarter, the Duhawks held Elmhurst without a field goal and forced eight turnovers
- The first four of the Duhawks' eight points came via second-chance opportunities
- Loras' 15 steals is the second-highest mark this season … The Duhawks improved to 6-0 this season when totaling eight or more steals
- Loras finished with 48 points in the paint as compared to Bluejays' 30

INDIVIDUAL NOTABLES
- For the third game in-a-row, Eckhart notched her career-high in points after finishing with 12 total points on Saturday … The Park Ridge, Ill. native went 4-of-5 from beyond the arc 
- Hutchins finished with a season-high 16 points … Her four steals ties the most in a single game this season for the Duhawks

FRIEDMAN GROUP PLAYER OF THE GAME - CYERRA HUTCHINS
- The Cedar Rapids native energized the Loras offense and defense on Saturday, racking up 16 points, four of which came in the last minute of the game in the Duhawks crucial 7-0 run that earned Loras a victory

Loras returns home to the Athletic & Wellness Center to take on cross-town rival, Dubuque on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Dubuque enters on a four-game losing streak and are 2-9 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
