DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras College Swimming and Diving team played host for the first time this season they welcomed Coe College to San Jose Pool for a dual meet on Friday, October 31. In the women's meet, both sides were closely contested, but Loras had enough in the tank to walk away victorious, 112-105. In the men's meet, the Duhawks started off fast and didn't look back, swimming their way to a 151-50 victory.
On the women's side, there were multiple individual victories, along with one relay win. Highlighting the day was freshman
Kim Breaux. The Port Byron, Illinois native posted a win in both the 100 and 200 Freestyle with times of 58.35 and 2:06.28 respectively.
Other individual wins on the night came from senior
Lexie Mollahan in the 1000 Free (11:31.22), senior
Clare Ehlbeck in the 200 IM (2:22.83), and junior
Elise Amo in the 500 Free (5:38.03).
Finishing off the night for the Duhawks was the winning 200 Freestyle Relay team of Mollahan, junior
Heather Black, senior
Mary Kathryn Maher, and Amo with a time of 1:48.65. That victory was good enough to put the women's team in front for good with Loras accumulating 112 points to Coe's 107.
The men's team completed a clean sweep, finishing first in every individual event, plus both relays. Multiple victories came from senior
Matt Bogen, junior
Zach Benson, and sophomore
Ike Casey. Bogen, a senior from Roscoe, Illinois was arguably the top swimmer of the night sweeping the 1000 Free, 500 Free, and 200 Free with times of 11:06.64, 5:21.09, and 1:57.86 respectively. Benson was victorious in two events as well. The Upland, California native posted a time of 54.42 in the 100 fly and posted a 1:03.32 in the 100 breaststroke.
Casey was in the top swimmer conversation as well, posting two individual victories and coming within .24 seconds of the school record in the 50 freestyle (21.60), his other victory came in the 100 Free posting a time of 49.39 seconds.
Other victories came from junior
Greg Cormier in the 200 IM (2:13.85) and sophomore
Lance Scallon in the 100 Backstroke (59.39). The first winning relay teams were comprised of Scallon, Benson, senior
Matt DeWane, and senior
Grant Duncan in the 200 medley relay.
The 200 Free Relay was won by the team of Scallon, freshman
David Hayes, Casey, and Duncan in the 200 free relay (1:32.14). The Duhawks dominated the meet, finishing with a final score of 151 points to Coe's 50.
The Duhawks return to the pool November 7 when they travel to Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. The Vikings finished in first place at the Illinois Wesleyan Halloween Invitational on October 25. Loras and Augustana met last year for a dual with the Vikings edging Loras in the men's meet 152-79 and the women winning 156-83.
