Loras College Athletics

Mission Statement

The Loras College Department of Athletics gives each participant an opportunity to succeed in the classroom and in athletic competition. We promote academic integrity, social responsibility, Christian values, and athletic excellence while placing an emphasis on operating in full compliance with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III, the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC), Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC), and Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) governing rules and philosophies. We strive to enhance our student-athlete's diverse interactions as active learners into a comprehensive set of experiences that value leadership, self-esteem, spiritual growth, and physical and intellectual development.

The objectives of the department are:

• To fully support and reflect the mission and vision of Loras College.
• To provide a program that works cooperatively with a Catholic liberal arts education.
• To increase and maintain an image of success, sportsmanship, and visibility of Loras College through a high level of competition, respect, integrity, and servant leadership.
• To recruit championship caliber student-athletes who have the ability to participate and successfully compete in both the athletics arena and in the classroom.
• A department-wide dedication to lifelong learning practices, striving to remain on the forefront of NCAA athletics.

Sportsmanship Statement

Loras College takes pride in displaying exemplary sportsmanship. That sportsmanship is centered around the values of respect, fairness, civility, honesty, and responsibility. By displaying appropriate and sportsmanlike conduct while competing or as spectators, athletes and coaches associated with Loras College athletics provide a healthy example of highly spirited and positive competition. At Loras College, all coaches and student-athletes are expected to hold themselves to a high standard of sportsmanship and ethical play.

Any coach or student-athlete who engages in unsportsmanlike activity which is deemed as detrimental to the team or program during competition or as a spectator is subject to punishment, up to and including suspension or dismissal.
