Title Bid Falls Short for Women's Basketball

WAVERLY, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - Loras' bid for the inaugural American Rivers Tournament Championship fell short on Saturday, as Wartburg pulled away in the fourth quarter, winning 73-61. Riley Eckhart's 15 points led the Duhawk effort while Marissa Schroeder finished with a team-best nine rebounds.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
• After struggling to score early, Macenzie Kraemer knocks down a triple to tie the game at 10
• With eight seconds remaining in the opening quarter, Eckhart's triple pushed Loras in front, 16-14
• The Knights leveled less than a minute into the second frame, but back-to-back trey's from Courtney Schnoor and Taylor Brooks opened a six-point gap for the Duhawks
• The back-and-forth battle continued for the remainder of the half, with Wartburg tying the game at 30 … Then with four seconds to go, Kari Fitzpatrick sank a 3-pointer, giving her team the lead at the break
• Loras continued to work at their lead, extending it to as many as eight with 54 seconds to go in the third after a Fitzpatrick 3-pointer
• Needing to hold its lead for 10 minutes, the wheels came off the wagon for the Duhawks, who were limited to six points in the final frame … Four of Loras' six points came from the floor in Hanna Stokes and Fitzpatrick while Schroeder added a pair of free-throws
• The Knights ended the game on a 17-4 run as Loras' shooting went ice cold, hitting 1-of-7 from the floor

NOTABLES
• Loras finished the first half shooting 80 percent as a team from the free-throw line
• Eckhart slides into fourth for 3-pointers in a season, passing Lindsay Bava's mark from the 2008-09 season
• Hanna Stokes finished the season tied for fourth all-time free-throw percentage at 83.8, tying Bava's mark from 2009-10

UP NEXT
