DUBUQUE, Iowa (Feb. 12, 2020)- Macenzie Kraemer had a career-high 30 points allowing the No. 10-ranked Loras College women's basketball team (21-2, 12-2 A-R-C) to complete the sweep of American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) cross-town rival University of Dubuque (7-15, 3-10 A-R-C) by a final score of 86-54.
Marissa Schroeder put the Duhawks on the board first with a layup after the pass from
Courtney Schnoor. The Spartans answered with a few points of their own but the Duhawks quickly went on a seven-point run capped off by a layup from Kraemer making the score 13-4. Dubuque battled back cutting the Loras lead to just five points with just over five minutes to play.
Madison Haslow shut down the Spartans momentum with a three-point basket followed by a Kraemer layup on the Duhawks' very next offensive possession to put them back up by ten points. The Duhawks ended the quarter on top with a score of 21-15.
Loras kept the pressure on the Spartans scoring eight unanswered points to put the Duhawks up by 18 points with 6:11 remaining in the second quarter while Dubuque fought back to cut the Loras lead to just eight points with 43 seconds remaining. The Duhawks finished the half ahead 38-30 as both teams headed to the locker room.
The start of the third quarter ensued and with that teams traded turnovers before
Kari Fitzpatrick found an open Schnoor to score the first bucket of the second half. Dubuque was able to put together 12 points in the third quarter but an impressive third quarter led by eight points from Kraemer to give the Duhawks a 17-point lead at the end of the third quarter making the score 59-42. Schnoor kept the offensive attack alive for the Duhawks as she knocked down two free throws while the Spartans had no answer for the Duhawks' offensive attack as
Riley Eckhart makes a three-point basket to make the score 72-45 with a little over five minutes remaining. Kraemer knocked down back-to-back shots from beyond the arc to put the Duhawks ahead by 30 points while she scored her 30th point on the night. Loras extended their lead to as much as 35 points before the game to a close with a final score of 86-54.
Kraemer had a career high 30 points in the win while Schnoor added 14 points and Fitzpatrick tallied 12 points. Haslow had a team high four steals while Eckhart had a team high six rebounds.
The Duhawks will host No. 9 Wartburg College to battle for an A-R-C Championship on Wednesday Feb. 19. Tip-off is set for 5:30 P.M.
