Madison Haslow's lights-out three-point shooting and an impressive defensive display, the RV Loras College women's basketball team (3-0, 0-0 A-R-C) left no room for the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneers (1-1, 0-0 WIAC) to take control of the game as the Duhawks posted a dominant 89-43 win against the Pioneers to close out the Loras Tip-Off Class with a 2-0 record and remain undefeated through the early start of the season.
It took nearly two minutes for either team to break through and score with Platteville posting the first points and Loras' first four came off free throws by
Madison Fleckenstein and Haslow. The Pioneers took back a brief lead with six minutes to go in the first quarter off a three-pointer but
Jaime Ryan answered right back with one of her own to give the Duhawks the two-point edge.
Alli Udelhofen helped grow the lead with five-straight points and Haslow made it a ten-point advantage with a three-pointer off a pass from
Cierra Bachmann with 2:48 on the clock. The Pioneers tried to cut into the lead with a layup and three-pointer but
Sydney Schuler closed out the first ten minutes of play with one of her own, giving Loras the 24-16 lead.
The Duhawks opened the second quarter with six-unanswered points to pull ahead 29-16 in the opening 90 seconds and limited Platteville to eight points in the quarter, closing out the half with a 12-0 run in the final three minutes to lead 45-24 at the half. Loras continued to run away with the lead to start the second half with a 13-0 run and kept Platteville in the single digits again, only putting up seven points. Loras took a 68-31 lead into the final ten minutes which started with another three-pointer for Haslow and closed out the game with a three-pointer by
Hannah Thiele. Â
Haslow scored 22 points in the win, going 6-9 from beyond the arc and 7-10 from the field. Udelhofen added 16 points off the bench, going 6-6 from the field and a perfect 4-4 at the free-throw line. Martin had a team-high seven rebounds to go with 11 points while
Megan Murray and Ryan grabbed three steals each. Loras out-rebounded Platteville 2-1 with 40 on the night and forced 23 turnovers in addition to a boost from its bench with 37 points.
The Duhawks are idle until the first American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) game of the season at the Patrick J. Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center on Tuesday, Nov. 23 against No. 6-ranked Simpson College, the defending conference champions. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 P.M. against the Storm.
