INDIANOLA, Iowa (Oct. 30, 2022) – Eight different Duhawk competitors claimed individual event victories for Loras College swimming and diving on Saturday afternoon versus Simpson College as the men's team stayed unbeaten with a dominating win.
The Duhawk men ran away with a 156.5-45.5 triumph over the Storm, improving the team to 3-0 in head-to-head action this season. Simpson snuck out with a 118-92 win over the Duhawk women.
Freshman
Caden Gillmore earned two more race wins on Saturday, leading the way for a group of seven Duhawk men who stood atop the podium on the day. Gillmore was first in the 200-yard individual medley and first 100-yard freestyle, claiming the former by a 10-second margin over teammate Jon Broas.
Gillmore was also the lead leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that narrowly won the final race of the day by just a one-second gap over the Storm 's relay team.
Junior
Brad LaGrange was tops in the 1000-yard freestyle race in the first solo race for the men on Saturday, followed by a victory for freshman
Joey Kock in the 200-yard freestyle. Shortly after Gillmore's first of two wins, junior
Gannon Harrington outdueled teammate
James McArthur in the 1-meter dive, totaling a season-high score of 164.25.
Sophomore
Kevin McMillan (100-yard backstroke), sophomore
Austin Jorgensen (500-yard freestyle), and junior
Payton Markowski (100-yard breaststroke) finished the day with three straight race wins to help lift the Duhawks to another victory. All three swimmers out up season-best times in their winning efforts.
Senior
Nina Schiro led the way for the Duhawk women yet again, getting three wins in her three entries on Saturday. Schiro led off the first event of the day, the women's 200-yard medley relay race, and came away with a win along with her teammates
Kinsey Bogen,
Ellianna Stine, and
Annie Quinn.
Later, Schiro would take victories in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke races, with the later coming via a 10-second margin over teammate
Laney Edgeton.
Saturday marked the first time the Duhawks competed away from home this season, but they'' return to the San Jose Pool twice this coming week as they first host Knox College on Friday, Nov. 4, at 6 P.M.
