No. 22 Women’s Basketball Shoots Lights Outs in 91-43 Throttling of Nebraska Wesleyan

LINCOLN, Neb. (Jan. 14, 2023) – A near record-breaking shooting performance for the 22nd-ranked Loras College women's basketball team led to another dominating win for the Duhawks, this time in the form of a 91-43 win at Nebraska Wesleyan University.

The Duhawks (13-3, 6-1 A-R-C) easily set a season-high with 18 three-pointers on Saturday afternoon in Lincoln, coming just one shy of the program record of 19 made threes from a 2021 matchup with the University of Dubuque. The Prairie Wolves (5-10, 1-6 A-R-C) simply had no answer for Loras, which shot 47.6 percent from the field and 47.4 percent from three-point range.

Four Duhawk regulars shot 50 percent or better from three-point range on Saturday, headlined by a 5-for-6 performance from senior guard Madison Fleckenstein. Fleckenstein's line led to her setting a new career-high while leading all scorers with 28 points. She also added five rebounds, three assists, three steals, and two blocks.

Fleckenstein was hot all game, but somehow only contributed one three-pointer to the Duhawk cause in the third quarter that saw the team tally 34 points on an 8-for-11 shooting total from deep. Senior guard Cierra Bachmann connected on three straight long balls to start the second half, helping her tally 15 points on an overall shooting total of 4-for-7 from the field.

Sophomore guard Daniella Jarrell made the first three-pointer of her career just last week, and that lone make must have sparked some confidence as she finished Saturday's game 4-for-5 from deep to set a new career-high with 16 points. Jarrell joined Fleckenstein and Bachmann with three steals each to help the team secure 16 total.

Graduate guard Hannah Thiele was the fourth Duhawk to finish in double figures as she totaled 12 on a 3-for-6 performance from three.

You'd think that these impressive shooting numbers for the Duhawks would have been spread evenly throughout the game, but Loras struggled early on and finished the first quarter in a 12-12 tie with the Prairie Wolves. The Duhawks outpaced Nebraska Wesleyan 25-14 in the second quarter to get the rout started ahead of a huge second half.

Loras also got the offense started with another solid defensive performance as it held the Prairie Wolves to just 28.3 percent shooting from the field while forcing 25 turnovers.

The Duhawks will look to keep their recent shooting success going on Wednesday, Jan. 18 when they travel to play at Wartburg College at 5:30 P.M. At 7-0, the Knights are the only remaining unbeaten team in the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C).
