Duhawks Cruise to 79-23 Win Over Hilbert College

HILO, Hawaii – Behind a dominate defensive effort, the Loras College women's basketball team snapped their four-game losing streak with a 79-23 win over the Hilbert College Hawks on Wednesday.

The Duhawks (4-6 Overall, 0-3 American Rivers Conference) dominated from the opening tip, racing out to a 18-5 lead after the first quarter. Loras continued momentum into the second quarter and used a hot shooting quarter to take a 30-point lead (40-10) into halftime.

Coming out of the locker room, Kylie Rigby connected on a fastbreak three before Claire Wagner went on 7-2 run by herself to give the Duhawks a 38-point lead.

Loras took advantage of 33 Hilbert turnovers, turning them into 35 points and held the Hawks (1-11 Overall, 1-2 AMCC) to just 19.5 percent shooting (8-of-41).

The Purple and Gold saw 13 players in the scoring column, highlighted by Wagner's team-high 15 points. Rigby added 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting while Page Erickson had a season-high 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting. As a team, Loras shot 46.2 percent from the floor (30-of-65), 7-of-20 from beyond the arc, and won the rebounding battle 44-28.

Jessie Yelaska, MaKenna Brown, and Marissa Morgan all recorded their first points of the season in the win.

Hilbert was led by LaSasia Leak and Learsi Sabala who each had six points on the night.

Up Next: The Duhawks will take on Augustana College on Dec. 29 as part of the Paxton's Pack Classic, hosted by the University of Dubuque. Tip-off from the Stoltz Sports Center is scheduled for 5 p.m.
