PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The Duhawks almost immediately found themselves in the rear view mirror, as the Pioneers put up seven runs in two innings to ensure a loss for Loras Tuesday afternoon.
Bode Bregar was given the start but mightily struggled to find his footing, giving up six earned runs and allowing four free passes.
Luke Holtz was called upon in relief and delivered, as the sophomore went five innings of mostly clean baseball in what was his first varsity outing in the Purple and Gold.
Despite this bright spot, University of Wisconsin-Platteville (9-2, 0-0 WIAC) held down the Purple and Gold on offense to keep the game almost entirely out of reach.
A late push in the seventh helped the lone run score, with
Cody Sunny working a walk and scoring a run. But other than a 2-for-4 performance from
Jackson Cullen, and some singles sprayed throughout, Loras (7-9, 1-2 A-R-C) never really came close.
On Deck: The Duhawks will look to break their three-game skid on Friday, March 27 with a series against the Buena Vista Beavers. First pitch in Storm Lake, Iowa is set for 6:00 p.m.
