Box Score COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (Duhawks.com) – The game of soccer is 90 minutes for a reason, and Loras learned that the hard way on Sunday. Junior
Katie Truesdale put Loras out in front in the 11', but the Blazer offensive was too strong as the College of Saint Benedict roared back with three unanswered goals to hand the Duhawks the 3-1 setback.
In a rematch of last year's opening round match in the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament, the Blazers had redemption on their minds. With the early chances they earned, Saint Benedict looked as if they were going to be the first to crack the scoreline. In the 11', freshman
Maura Walsh held her position at the top of the attacking third and played a ball over the top to Truesdale. With her defender flicking it backwards, Truesdale was able to get under it and beat Heather Kaluzniak to the post to give the Duhawks the early lead.
Loras held on tight to the lead for as long as they could, but the Blazers struck back in the 36', with Taylor Hedin scoring her first goal of the season.
At the halftime break, the sides were level at one, but the feeling on the pitch was that something was going to break the game open, it was just a matter of who it would benefit.
Minutes into the second half, the pendulum swayed in favor of Saint Benedict as they took the lead in the 53' on a goal from Peggy Reiner. The insurance goal came minutes later when Kelsey Tatarek tallied her first of the year in the 63'.
The loss drops Loras to 4-4 on the year, ahead of next week's non-conference tilt with No. 2 Wheaton. The Thunder moved to 6-0 in 2014 with a 1-0 win over Calvin College on Saturday.
