DUBUQUE, IOWA (Duhawks.com) - The Loras men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the 2015-16 season on Saturday, Oct. 24 with a dual against Ripon. The men earned a 104-100 victory, while the women claimed a 115-102 win.
In the men's 100 butterfly, senior
Zach Benson finished with a top-time of 55.52 and earned nine team points. Sophomore
Danny Cepeda finished first in the men's 1000 breastroke with a time of 12:05.37, 36 seconds ahead of Ripon's David Peterkes.
Swimming in his collegiate debut, freshman Mac Faldet topped the previous season's best in the 100 breaststroke with his time of 1:02.52. The best time from the 2014-15 season was 1:02.55 by Benson.
Senior
Heather Black and sophomore
Kim Breaux went 1-2 in the 200 freestyle for the Duhawks, earning 13 team points and posting times of 2:08.61 and 2:09.21, respectively. Black added another win in the 100 freestyle, edging out Ripon's Hanna Metz with a time of 58.42.
Senior
Elise Amo placed first in the 500 freestyle, posting a time 5:48.00, beating Ripon's Abby Hilker second place finsher by nearly four seconds. Freshman Rachel Prendergast took third with her time of 6:08.23.
UP NEXTLoras will return to the pool next Friday, Oct. 30, when they face Coe in an Iowa Conference matchup. The dual is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
