TURNING POINTAfter Loras took the opening set, 25-23, Wartburg came out of the intermission with a new focus, opening a 6-1 lead. The adjustments the Knights made all the difference as they stole the momentum from the Duhawks and never looked back.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set OneLoras came out firing in the first set, posting 15 kills and hitting at a .244 clip. Despite Wartburg edging the Duhawks with a .263 attack percentage, Loras 4-0 lead late in the set gave them a late advantage. Leading 24-23, junior
Danni Kennedy put away the attack to give Loras the first set win.
Set TwoAfter Wartburg opened a 6-1 lead, the Duhawks responded with a four-point run of their own. Both sides traded blows all set long, with neither team able to amount for much more than a five-point advantage. Later, at 21-all, Wartburg rattled off four unanswered points to win 25-21.
Set ThreeNow in control of the momentum inside of their home arena, Wartburg continued to add to their lead throughout the third set. Loras was forced to call a timeout, trailing 20-13, but the break in action did little to slow down the Knights' attack. A 5-3 run out of the timeout by Wartburg sealed the set at 25-16 and gave the Knights a 2-1 lead in the match.
Set FourThe Duhawks came out motivated in the fourth set, opening a 10-4 lead early. Just as had been done in previous sets, Wartburg came back with a 9-3 run to level the sides at 13-all. The Knights rallied from the run and built an immense level of momentum to the tune of a 12-3 run, winning the set, 25-16, and the match, 3-1.
