KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Duhawks.com) - The Loras College Women's Lacrosse team wrapped up the 2015 season with a 26-6 loss to the Rockhurst Hawks at Bourke Stadium on Saturday. Junior Kaitlyn Kutsch and freshman Sarah Hanson tallied two goals each in the loss. With her team trailing 7-0, sophomore Hannah Nelson battled for a draw control before carrying the ball down field. Fouled on her way through the midfield, Nelson used the advantage and blew past the Rockhurst defense and fired a shot into the back of the net.
Loras used the ensuing draw control to jump start another scoring opportunity as freshman Katie Kulas scooped up the draw control and moved the ball towards goal. As the Duhawks worked the ball around the eight, sophomore Anna Schwalbe drove a lane towards the net and buried her first goal of the game to pull Loras within five.
After Rockhurst extended their lead to 11-2, Kulas hustled after a lose ball providing the Duhawks with another chance on the offensive end. Moving the ball up field quick, Hanson gained possession and blew a shot past the goalkeeper, cutting Loras' deficit to eight.
Hanson doubled her scoring total on the day moments later after Loras successfully cleared the ball into the midfield before Nelson possessed outside the eight. Surveying her options, Nelson connected with Hanson, bringing the score to 11-4.
Unfortunately for the Duhawks, that was as close as they would come. Kutsch scored twice late, bringing the final score to 26-6 in favor of Rockhurst.
Loras finishes the season 4-12 overall and a 1-6 mark in MWLC play.
