PELLA, Iowa (Duhawks.com) – After splitting with Buena Vista University last weekend, the Loras College Baseball team dropped both of their games against Central College on Friday afternoon. Central needed just one run to defeat the Duhawks 1-0 in game one, prior to defeating the Duhawks by a final score of 5-4 in game two. Senior
Adam Schwoebel stood out in game one despite being tagged with the loss. Schwoebel pitched his sixth complete game, throwing six innings while allowing three hits and one earned run.
Loras (19-18, 13-13 IIAC) was held to a total of four hits and six total base runners in game one as Central (18-19, 14-12 IIAC) starter Andy Carr turned in one of his best performances of the season.
After starting the season 5-0, Schwoebel has lost three of his last five outings, resulting in a 7-3 record to end the regular season.
Appearing in the starting lineup for the first time this season,
Nate Even led the Duhawks on offense going 2-for-2 with two singles. Even earned the start in center field with sophomore
Cole Reeg slotted as the designated hitter. Known as primarily a pinch-runner, Even added his second and third career hits in the loss.
Game two shaped up better offensively for the Duhawks, but errors proved costly in their 5-4 defeat. The Duhawks five errors resulted in two unearned runs to score.
Senior
Will Petrosky turned in his best effort of the season, despite being tagged with the loss. Petrosky threw six innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs, while striking out six batters. The Glenbard North product commanded his pitches for a majority of his outing, walking just two batters. This was Petrosky's lowest walk total dating back to his outing against Dominican on April 1 when he walked just one batter.
Loras continued the season trend of two-out success in game two, scoring three of their four runs with two outs on the board.
The Duhawks scored their first two runs of the day in the third inning thanks to Reeg leading off the inning with a walk. Reeg would then steal second base to put himself into scoring position for junior
Patrick Walsh. Walsh was unable to drive in Reeg, but his single advanced Reeg to third. With the sophomore on third, senior
Spence Bonner drove him home on a ground out.
Patrick Walsh was later able to score on an errant throw.
Following four consecutive scoreless innings, the Duhawks got back to work in the eighth inning.
After a one-out walk by Walsh, Loras pieced together a two-out rally, scoring two runs on singles from senior
Adam Kennedy and freshman
Dan Weis. Unfortunately for the Duhawks they left two men on to end their threat.
Loras was retired in order in the ninth, handing them their second loss on the day.
