OSHKOSH, Wis. (Duhawks.com) - The beginning of the 2015 season came on Tuesday for the Loras Women's Soccer team, but very little went in their favor, falling 5-1 to UW-Oshkosh (1-0-0). Freshman
Elizabeth Mills provided the lone highlight for the Duhawks (0-1-0), scoring her first career goal in the 54th minute.
The opening 20 minutes saw both sides testing the water, trying to feel the boundaries that they could push. In the 23rd minute, UWO's Robyn Elliot broke free of her mark near the top of the 18 and found a seam to blast home the first goal of the game. The momentum stayed in the Titan's favor as they found the net once against in the 33rd minute to take a 2-nil lead into the half.
Coming out of the halftime break, the Duhawks looked poised to erase the two goal deficit they had found themselves in after the opening 45. Mills' goal in the 54th looked to spurn a comeback, but the momentum was short-lived as the Titans responded with three unanswered goals between the 66th and 82nd minutes, including two in the 66th minute.
The loss is Loras' first opening day loss since 2012, when they lost to Augustana, 4-2.
