DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's basketball team improved to 5-5 on the season after a 79-72 win over Elmhurst on Monday afternoon. Led by senior
Terese McMahon with a career-high 25 points, the Duhawks shot a season-best 56.1 percent from the floor as a team.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
First Quarter
- McMahon got the Duhawk offense rolling early in the first, with four straight points for a 6-5 lead.
- Junior Lauren Stanich converted on a steal from senior Lori Obendorf, with a layup for a four-point lead with 34.5 seconds remaining in the quarter.
Second Quarter
- Obendorf started the quarter strong, as the Naperville, Ill. native drove into the paint, taking a foul for the and-1. The senior converted on the three-point play to put the Duhawks up seven at 21-14.
- Tough Loras defense, including a block from Obendorf, forced two-straight Elmhurst turnovers, as the Duhawks compiled a seven-point lead midway through the quarter.
- Junior Addie Oberman converted on her own steal on the fast-break which gave Loras their largest lead in the half at 28-16 with just under four minutes remaining in the quarter.
Third Quarter
- At 6:12, McMahon extended Loras' lead to 13 after the Lindenhurst, Ill. native converted off her own offensive rebound with a putback.
- McMahon got on the board again for the Duhawks as the senior drew a foul while making her shot. The senior would hit her free throw, good for her 20th point of the day.
Fourth Quarter
- The Bluejays pulled within four points at 74-70 after a made 3-pointer from Elmhurst's Kaela Jones.
- Loras converted on three Bluejay fouls in the last 45 seconds in regulation, shooting 5-of-6 from the line to solidify the 79-72 victory.
