PELLA, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras softball team was swept by Central on Saturday in their second Iowa Conference doubleheader of the season. The Duhawks fell 8–3 in game one and 11–3 in game two.
LORAS HIGHLIGHTS
- Central kept the Duhawk bats quiet in game one, limiting them to three hits in the first three innings and seven overall.
- The Dutch were quick to get on the board with two runs in the bottom of the first, both off singles.
- The Dutch increased the deficit with four more runs in the third to take a 6–0 lead.
- Central held Loras from scoring until the fourth inning. Sophomore Briana Minet pinch ran for freshman Shannon Coyle after she singled up the middle to start the rally.
- Freshman Lauren Fritz was walked and freshman Hannah Towns singled to score Minet and Fritz, cutting the Dutch lead to 6–2.
- Central tacked on two more runs as security in the fifth and sixth innings.
- Freshman Nicole Majewski brought in Mikaela Lengwin for Loras' third run in the seventh, but it was not enough as Loras fell 8–3 to the Dutch.
- The Duhawks were limited offensively once again against Central in game two, recording eight hits to 14 for the Dutch.
- Central held Loras scoreless in the first three innings while managing to tally eight of their own.
- In the top of the fourth, sophomore Bria Lenten doubled to right center and later came in to score in a single by junior Cate Paulsen to left field.
- Central added another run in their half of the fourth to lead 9–1.
- In the top of the fifth, Minet and freshman Megan Larson scored to close the gap to 9–3.
- A two-run single by the Dutch in the home half of the fifth gave the Dutch the eight-run lead they needed for the early win, taking game two 11–3.
- With a 2-for-3 performance in game one and 3-for-3 performance in game two, Coyle increased her multiple hit games total to four.

Hannah Towns | The freshman went 2-for-3 in game one while recording three putouts in left field.
Shannon Coyle | With a perfect 3-for-3 day in game two, Coyle capped a 5-for-6 day at the plate, adding a pair of putouts and assists on defense.
UP NEXT
Loras will travel to Mt. Vernon, Iowa on Wednesday to face Cornell in non-conference action. The Rams (9–11, 3–3 MWC) split with Carroll on Saturday, dropping game one, 2–0, before rebounding to win game two, 6–0. Last season, the Duhawks were swept by Cornell by scores of 2–0 and 4–3.
