STORM LAKE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras wrestling team improved to 2-0 in the Iowa Conference on Wednesday night, defeating Buena Vista on the road, 34-10. In total, four of the Duhawks' six wins came via fall, including three straight beginning at 184#.

WINNERS

Matt Randone | 125# | Davenport, Iowa | Assumption
The former Davenport Assumption prep got the Duhawks started on the right foot with a win to start the dual. After scoring a takedown in the first and second periods, Randone racked up enough riding time to break the tie, winning 5-4 over Buena Vista's Ernesto Garcia.

Michael Triplett | 133# | Normal, Ill. | Normal
With a 2-0 lead after the first, Triplett scored a reversal and added a pair of four-point near falls in the second against Buena Vista's Riley Altenburg. With a convincing 12-0 lead already in place, Triplett recorded his second reversal of the bout, and this time didn't surrender before securing the fall at the 5:52 mark of the third period.

Clint Lembeck | 149# | Marion, Iowa | Xavier
In one of the closer bouts of the night, Lembeck needed only four points for the win, scoring a takedown in the first and added a two-point near fall in the third.

Eddie Smith | 174# | Prairie du Sac, Wis. | Sauk Prairie
After back-to-back wins by the Beavers at 157 and 165, Smith stepped to the line and opened a 4-0 lead in the first period. After no points were scored in the second, Smith turned on the after-burners, scoring three takedowns mixed in with a four-point near fall to win by major decision, 15-3.

Awais Arain | 184# | Plainfield, Ill. | Plainfield East
The junior continued where he left off in last week's dual against Central, opening with a takedown of Buena Vista's Lavaris Preston. From the bottom position to start the second, Arain earned the escape and proceeded to add a takedown and four-point near fall before securing the pin at the 4:50 mark.

Guy Patron Jr. | 197# | Harvey, La. | Jesuit
Patron Jr. made quick work of Tyler Puls, recording three takedowns in the first period. Without the need for a near fall, Patron Jr. earned his team six points with the pin 2:17 into his bout.

Quin Gilliam | 285# | Shreveport, La. | C.E. Boyd
With the dual in hand, Gilliam ended the night on a high note for Loras, turning a first period takedown into a four-point near fall on Buena Vista's Nick Mitchell, eventually securing the fall just over a minute into the bout.

OUTSTANDING WRESTLER
Eddie Smith |
After Buena Vista had earned back-to-back wins, Smith stole momentum back for the Purple & Gold with a major decision at 174#. Smith scored 10 of his 15 points in the third period alone, highlighted by three takedowns.
