Women's Basketball Falls in Iowa Conference Semifinals

DECORAH, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's basketball fell in the Iowa Conference semifinals on the road to Luther, 65-62. On the night, senior Erin Weaver and junior Cyerra Hutchins pitched in 15 points apiece while senior Lori Obendorf added 12 points.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
First Quarter
  • The Duhawks found an early 6-3 lead after Weaver put up a pair jumpers in the first three minutes of play.  
  • Back-to-back baskets from the Norse with a minute of play left in the period pushed Luther in front, 16-13.

Second Quarter
  • The Norse held their lead until midway through the quarter when junior Miranda Chapman hit a jumper to give Loras a 24-23 advantage. 
  • A 7-0 run, highlighted by a 3-pointer from freshman Macenzie Kraemer opened the largest lead of the night for the Duhawks at 32-25.

Third Quarter
  • Luther diffused Loras' lead with a 5-0 run to pull within one at 43-42 with 4:40 remaining in the quarter. 
  • The Duhawks reclaimed the lead after Obendorf converted an and-1 opprotunity into a 3-point play for a 46-42 Loras lead. 

Fourth Quarter
  • At 4:33, the Norse stole the lead from the Duhawks to take their first lead since the 6:03 mark o fthe second quarter at 58-57.
  • After a layup from Obendorf tied the game at 62-all, a Loras foul sent the Norse to the line. Luther made both free-throws and solidified its win, 65-62.

FRIEDMAN GROUP PLAYER OF THE GAME
Erin Weaver | In her fourth start of the season, the senior collected a season-high 15 points in the loss. Weaver also added six rebounds while shooting 7-of-10 from the floor. 

NOTABLES
  • The Duhawks shot 76.9 percent from the floor in the second quarter which resulted in a six-point scoring margin at 24-18 
  • Kraemer saw a season-high 13 minutes of play tonight in which the freshman totaled four rebounds, two assists and three points
  • Loras concludes their 2016-17 season with a final record of 17-10 (10-6 IIAC)
