DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras wrestling team welcomed top-ranked Wartburg to town on Thursday night with the Iowa Conference Championship on the line. Despite a number of closely-contested bouts, the Knights prevailed, winning 32-0.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
- Loras kept matters close early on Thursday, dropping decisions at the first four weights by a combined 11 points.
- Senior Evan Weaver nearly upset reigning national champion and top-ranked Kenny Martin at 149#, six points in the third period, including a two-point near fall
- Wartburg earned its first of two bonus point wins at 157# with a major decision by No. 3 Logan Thomsen.
- At 197#, freshman Guy Patron Jr. was unable to overcome an early 6-1 deficit, falling by decision, 9-6
