CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras baseball team fell to 10-15 (4-8 IIAC) on the year with a 11-7 loss to Coe on Wednesday. Sophomore
Austin Konagel drove in two runs while scoring one himself and drew two walks.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
- Senior Luke Leibforth started the game with a base hit to left, only to be stranded after back-to-back strikeouts ended the frame.Â
- Coe jumped on the board early with a lead off triple as the Kohawks came home three pitches later on a wild pitch.Â
- In the bottom of the third, Coe extended its lead to three with a RBI base hit to right center before junior Brad Schwind ended the frame with a pick off and groundout.Â
- Facing a 5-0 deficit, the Duhawks loaded the bases with one out in the fifth. Leibforth reached base on an error as both sophomore Danny Paluch and junior Mike Muto came around to score on the play and cut the Kohawks' lead to three.Â
- Loras added to its inning on a double by Konagel to the gap, scoring Ritter and Leibforth, pulling the Duhawks to within one at 5-4.
- In his first inning of relief, freshman Sean Conneely worked around a leadoff double to hold Coe off the scoreboard.
- Sophomore Jake Oglesby roped a single back up the middle to tie the game at five. On the play, Weis was thrown out at the plate on a bang-bang play.
- With one out in the top of the eighth, Loras loaded the bases thanks to three consecutive base hits from Paluch, Muto and senior Thomas Johnson. A lineout by senior Nolan Ritter paired with a ground out ended the Duhawk rally.
- Five hits and two Loras errors provided the Kohawks with plenty of opportunity to blow the game open with a six-run eighth inning.
- Trailing by six, the Duhawks showed fight, scoring two runs on two hits while making the most of a throwing error by Coe, but the rally fell short with Coe holding on to win 11-7.
