Men Finish in 6th Place and Women Finish in 10th after Day Three of Rochester Invitational

ROCHESTER, Minn. (Duhawks.com) - After three long days of swimming, the Rochester Invitational finally came to a close on Sunday night. The men's swim team jumped from 7th place to 6th place thanks to a strong final day by Senior Mac Faldet. The women's team finished the Invitational in 10th place out of 12 teams. In addition to finishing in 10th place, the women's swim team broke four different school records.
NOTABLES
DAY 1:
In the Men's 400 Yard Medley, Mac Faldet, Tim LaGrange, John Lynch, and AJ Gainer finished in 13th place with a time of 3:41.98.
With a time of 4:09.91, Jenn Young, Logan Eckhardt, Sarah Shafer, and Tessa Orozco finished in 20th place in the Women's 400 Yard Medley Relay
In the Men's 800 Yard Freestyle Relay, Mac Faldet, John Lynch, Tim LaGrange and Ben Fogarty combined for a time of 7:44.48, good enough for 16th place.
DAY 2:
Sarah Shafer finished in 10th place in the Women 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.32. In the prelims Sarah swam the event in 24.64 seconds, good enough for 9th place out of 87 swimmers.
Sarah Shafer continued her strong day of swimming in the 100 Yard Backstroke. After finishing with one of the top prelim times of 57.39, Shafer swam a 57.57 which placed her in a tie for 3rd place.
Mac Faldet dominated the Men's 100 Yard Backstroke. Mac began the day winning the prelims with a time of 57.09 and he capped off the day with a time of 56.79 in the championship race, placing him in 1st place out of 33 swimmers.
In addition to his strong showing in the 100 Yard Backstroke, Mac captured 3rd place in the 100 Yard IM with a time of 52.97, 0.76 seconds faster than his prelim time.
In a field of eight divers for the Women's One Meter Dive, Mikaela Lengwin had a solid showing finishing in 2nd place with a score of 416.60, 14.20 points better than her prelim score.
DAY 3:
Mac Faldet continued his strong weekend winning the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:06.25, over four seconds faster than his prelim time … This was Mac's second win of the weekend.
Sarah Shafer capped off a strong weekend with an 8th place finish in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 59.04
In the Women's Three Meter Dive Mikaela Lengwin captured 4th place after recording 403.85 points.
The Duhawks women's swim team concluded the Rochester Invitational with broken records in the 200 Yard Freestlye Relay as Sarah Shafer, Tessa Orozco, Alex Nesset, and Logan Eckhardt swam a 1:40.02, beating the previous record by 1.38 seconds ... Sarah Shafer also broke the 50 Yard Freestyle record on her leg of the relay with a time of 24.20 better than the previous record by .26 seconds ... In the 200 Yard Medley Relay Jenn Young, Logan Eckhardt, Sarah Shafer, and Tessa Orozco swam a 1:51.93, eclipsing the previous mark of 1:52.12 ... And Sarah Shafer also broke the 100 Yard Backstroke record by 2.87 seconds as she swam a 57.39 in the prelims.
UP NEXT
The Duhawks take a several week break before returning to A-R-C competition in January. The Duhawks will head to Decorah, Iowa to face the Norse of Luther College. The meet is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
