Duhawks Hold Off Dubuque in Regular Season Finale

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's basketball team closed the regular season on the road Saturday, holding off a comeback effort by Dubuque, winning 76-71. Cyerra Hutchins tallied a season-high 21 points for the Duhawks, who finish the regular season with a 16-9 record and 8-8 in the Iowa Conference.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
- Saturday started as an even match, tied at 6-all through the first four minutes … From there, Loras opened the spread thanks to a 22-5 run, led by Marissa Schroeder's six points and two rebounds
- The Duhawks continued to pile it on, eventually opening a 26-point lead at 25-19 after a layup from Kelly Barzowski
- Out of the halftime break, Loras made it a 30-point game after a 9-3 run 8:18 remaining
- Despite the massive deficit, the Spartans refused to go quietly and went on a 7-1 run to end the third quarter and cut the Duhawk lead 70-50
- Loras was held scoreless for 7:44 between the end of the third and first half of the fourth quarter … During that stretch, Dubuque outscored the Duhawks 10-0
- With 40 seconds to play, Crystal Rios hit a 3-pointer for the Spartans that cut Loras' lead to two at 73-71 .. In the next 30 seconds, layups from Barzowski and Hutchins created a safe gap for the Purple & Gold

- Loras ends the season shooting above 50 percent in three of its last four games … In total this season, the Duhawks shot 50 percent or better in six games with the lone loss coming against Nebraska Wesleyan
- With the win, Loras secured the No. 4 seed in the Iowa Conference Tournament and hosts fifth-seeded Buena Vista on Tuesday
