Duhawks Wreak Havoc on Spartans

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - Even with the tundra-like temperatures outside, the Loras women's basketball team was red hot on offense Wednesday afternoon, dropping 104 on its crosstown rivals, Dubuque. Marissa Schroeder led the way with 23 points and 10 rebounds as the Duhawks cruised to their 17th victory of the season.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
• Macenzie Kramer collected the rebound on the miss and found Hanna Stokes for the first two points of the game
• Following their strong first quarter, the Duhawks opened the second quarter on a 15-3 run to extend their lead to 25
• With time winding down in the second, Sydney Schuler connected on a 3-pointer and finished the four-point play after the foul
• Loras blew the game wide open in the third quarter, holding Dubuque to four points while pouring in 23 … The Spartans did not score for the final five minutes of the quarter
• Marissa Schroeder capped a huge third quarter, knocking down a 3-pointer at the top of the key
• Ashley Funk drove the lane and kicked it out to Hannah Thiele who broke the century mark with her 3-pointer … Wednesday marked the second time this season that Loras has scored 100 or more points

NOTABLES
• Hanna Stokes was one rebound shy of recording her first double-double of the season … her nine rebounds ties a season-high previously set at WashU … She also tied her previous season-best point total of 180, bringing her career total to 389
• The Duhawks held the Spartans to 1-of-16 shooting from distance
• Loras recorded assists on 30 of its 39 field goals
• The Duhawks scored 36 points off Spartan turnovers
• Four points is the fewest that the Duhawks have allowed in any quarter, all season
• Loras recorded single-digit turnovers for the first time this season with five
• Kraemer reached the 400-point milestone in her career, finishing with five points

Loras gets set to host Simpson on Saturday in American Rivers Conference action. The Storm are 16-3 this season and 8-2 in league play and face No. 18 Wartburg on Thursday prior to Saturday's showdown. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
