Box Score

WAVERLY, Iowa (Nov. 16, 2019) – The Loras College football team concluded the 2019 season with a 5-5 overall record and 4-4 in American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play on Saturday after a 48-7 loss to No. 19/24 Wartburg College (9-1, 7-1 A-R-C).

The Knights commanded the opening quarter, taking a 27-0 lead after 15 minutes of play, but the Duhawks' defense limited Wartburg to only one touchdown in the second quarter and forced the Knights to fumble the ball on their next possession. Jack Foley picked up right where he left off last game and recovered the football to set Loras up for the drive.

The Duhawks made great strides downfield and were within striking distance of the Knights' endzone, but Wartburg's defensive front halted Loras' drive to end the half. Coming out of the locker room, the Knights tacked on two more touchdowns to lead 48-0 but Jerry McDaniel made sure the Duhawks had the final word in the game after Noah Sigwarth handed off the ball and the offensive line opened up room for the senior running back to find the endzone with 4:02 left in the game.

Jake Burgmeier was able to combat the Knights' defense with 58 rushing yards on 12 carries and Sigwarth, the team's leading rusher, had the Duhawks' longest carry for 34 yards. He ended the season with 609  yards to set a new single-season record for rushing yards by a quarterback. Sam Maloney had 51 receiving yards and freshman Hareson Willis had 31 yards on two receptions.

Loras' defense came away with four sacks for 17 total yards, including an 11-yard loss by Jabari James Turner-Smith. Turner-Smith also forced one of the Knights' two fumbles as did Walker Even and Chris Miller brought his tackles for loss total for the season to 18.5 after coming away with three.

The 2019 season showed growth for the team as Duhawks posted the first .500 season since 2010 and had its first three-game winning streak since 2015.
