SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (Dec. 20, 2019) - The No. 23 Loras college women's basketball team, grabbed another win in the Puerto Rico Classic before heading home, against Colby-Sawyer College today, 72-42.
Coming off of a win yesterday, the Duhawks came hot out of the gate, with a layup by
Kari Fitzpatrick in the first 2 seconds of the game. Loras then went on an 8-point run, with baskets by
Macenzie Kraemer, and
Courtney Schnoor, until Colby-Sawyer made a single free throw. Lydia Breuning answered for the Duhawks, sinking 2 three-pointers, making the score 14-5, with 4:08 left in the first quarter.
Marissa Schroeder and
Riley Eckhart dominated the court, making shots in the paint, and behind the arc, allowing Loras to break away with a score of 49-15 , as they headed into the locker room.
The third quarter resulted in many fouls from both teams, making a majority of the points scored from free throws. This trend carried into the fourth quarter with a total of four fouls in the first 30 seconds. Colby-Sawyer attempted the comeback, with 10 unanswered points, holding the Duhawks scoreless until 2:40 remaining in the game, which was broken by a couple of good free throws from
Sydney Schuler. Despite the attempts from the Mustangs, the Duhawks came out on top with a 72-42 victory.
Schroeder leads the team in points today, with 15, and 4 rebounds. Eckhart was 4 for 6 and 3 for 5 behind the arc, along with 3 steals.
After four away games in a row, the Duhawks travel back home after the holidays to play North Park University on Sunday, December 29th, in the Loras College Christmas Tournament. Tip off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
