LA CROSSE, Wis. (Dec. 7, 2019) – The No. 2 Loras College wrestling team scored a pair of two top-25 dual wins on Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Duals, defeating No. 13-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 33-18 and the No. 8-ranked host Eagles 37-9 to improve to 3-0 on the season.
In the opening dual against UW-Whitewater, the Warhawks took a quick 6-0 lead after winning the 125 lbs. bout, but HM
Mason McMillen defeated Lynden Josiah by tech fall at 133 lbs. to put Loras on the scoreboard. Two forfeits by the Warhawks gave the Duhawks a 17-9 advantage before No.4/3-ranked
Eddie Smith won the 165 lbs. weight class by a major decision against Ryder Sigler. No. 6/6
Shane Liegel recorded his sixth pin of his freshman campaign against Killian Jauch at 184 lbs. at the 1:52 mark to give Loras a 28-12 lead and a forfeit for Whitewater at 197 lbs. sealed the win for the Duhawks.
The second dual against La Crosse saw the Duhawks trail in similar fashion as the first with the opponent winning the 125 weightclass, but
Zach Licht rebounded for the Duhawks with a win by an 8-4 decision against d3wrestle.com-ranked contender Josh Stenger at 133 lbs. Loras continued to pile on the points after No. 4/5-ranked
Clint Lembeck defeated contender-ranked Hayden Schlough by a 9-5 decision and
Brock Parker defeated Tyler Shackle by major decision.
The Eagles took the 149 lbs. bout, but from there on out it would be all about the Duhawks as Smith recorded his second win of the day, pinning Nick Fetzner at 1:27 and No. 6/6
Jacob Krakow defeated Mitchell Hertel by tech fall. Liegel also finished the day 2-0 with a major decision against HM Connor Williams before both No. 3/3
Guy Patron Jr. and contender-ranked
Wyatt Wriedt won their bouts by fall. Patron Jr. made swift work of Adam Gusky, pinning him in the first 34 seconds. Wreidt had his pin against Nolan Tewell at the 2:38 mark.
The Duhawks return to action on Saturday, Dec. 14, hosting Millikin University. Action in the Fieldhouse begins at 2 P.M.
