LINCOLN, Neb. (Jan. 25, 2020) – The Loras College swimming and diving team traveled to Nebraska Wesleyan University for two days of competition against the Prairie Wolves. The Duhawks also swam against Midland University on Friday, Jan. 24 before the dual meet against NWU on Saturday, Jan. 25.
On Friday, Loras swam against Midland University and the host Prairie Wolves in a tri-team set up.
Kinsey Bogen won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:09.40 and
Sarah Shafer won the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.96. She also won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:13.87.
The women's 200 medley relay of Shafer, Bogen,
Alyx Nugent, and
Amber Forbort placed second (2:01.00) and
Harriet Siegrist placed second in the 400 individual medley (6:12.17).
The men saw a third place finish from John Lynch in the 200 butterfly (2:11.06) on the first day of competition.
On Saturday, Bogen added another first place finish, this time in the 1000 freestyle, winning the event with a time of 12:38.79 and finishing 14 seconds ahead of the next swimmer. Shafer won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:31. 99, touching the wall ten seconds ahead of teammate
Stephanie Hill who posted a time of 2:41.44. Shafer also won the 100 backstroke (1:01.72) while Forbort placed second in the 100 butterfly (1:12.40).
On the second day, Tim Lagrange placed second in the 200 individual medley (2:19.27) and
Zach Nelson was second in the 100 freestyle (52.20).
Loras dropped both duals to the Prairie Wolves as the women fell 98-70 on Friday and 110-69 on Saturday. The men fell 157-33 on Friday and 161-32 on Saturday.
With the dual meet portion of the schedule complete, the Duhawks now turn their focus to the Liberal Arts Championship beginning Feb. 12, hosted by Principia College.
