Jan. 25, 2020 – Junior Marissa Schroeder of the No. 8 Loras College women's basketball (16-2, 7-2 A-R-C) scores her 1,000-career point in a tough fought game against American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) opponent Luther College Norse (9-7, 7-2 A-R-C) on Saturday, conceding their second loss of the season 76-66.

Kari Fitzpatrick put the Duhawks on the board first with a three-point basket after the Norse scored the first four points of the contest. Gaining some momentum, the Duhawks went on an eight-to-two run aided by a jump shot from Courtney Schnoor and a huge three-point basket from Madison Fleckenstein. With 5:07 left in the first quarter, the crowd erupted as Schroeder scored her 1,000-career point on a contested layup. Luther quickly responded with a layup of their own as the back and forth affair continued. The Duhawks finished out the quarter with a three-pointer from Macenzie Kraemer and a layup from Fitzpatrick while the Norse scored the last bucket of the quarter giving the Duhawks a 20-16 lead.

The second quarter started off slow for both teams until Schroeder headed to the free-throw line breaking the silence and extending the Duhawk lead to five points. The Norse answered by going on a 7-0 run tying the game at 23 all. Riley Eckhart regained the lead for Loras with a quick layup. In the final four minutes of the game, there were five lead changes with Loras coming out on top thanks to Eckhart 's free throws giving the Duhawks a 33-31 lead at the half.

Much like the first half Fitzpatrick helped Loras get on the board first with a free throw and a quick layup off Kraemer's steal and pass to put the Duhawks up by five. The Norse kept chipping away at the Duhawks lead but Kraemer and Eckhart kept the Duhawks out in front by seven points as the quarter ended with the Duhawks ahead 50-43.

The fourth quarter started with the Norse coming out hot going on a seven-point run taking the lead until Schroeder scored back-to-back jump shots giving Loras the lead 54-53. Luther regained the lead with 5:34 left in the game but Loras quickly took the momentum with a three-point basket from Eckhart. The back-and-forth affair ensued with more lead changes as the Norse go on an 11-3 run to put them ahead 71-63 with 48 seconds left in the game. The Duhawks fought back with three points from Schnoor but the lead was too much for Loras as they fell short with a final score of 76-66.

The Duhawks finished the game with all five starters in double figures. Kraemer and Schnoor led in scoring with 13 points apiece, Eckhart tallied 12 points while Fitzpatrick added 10 points, Schroeder led the team in rebounds with six and added 10 points of her own making her the eleventh all-time scorer in Duhawk history with 1,008 points.

Loras travels to Pella, Iowa where they will face off against A-R-C opponent Central College on Wednesday, January 29. Tip-off is set for 5:30 P.M.
