Final Results
ELSAH, Ill. (Feb. 16, 2020) – The Loras College swimming and diving team closed the 2019-20 season at the four-day Liberal Arts Conference Championship, hosted by Principia College, and saw
Sarah Shafer bring home the individual titles in three events and two Duhawks set new program records.
Shafer, who has been a leader for the Duhawks all season, capped her junior season with a new program record in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.13 seconds. She held the previous record of 24.16 which she set last season at the championship. She also won the 100-yard backstroke (57.48) and 200-yard backstroke (2:06.80). Shafer then teamed up with
Alex Nesset,
Amber Forbort and
Kinsey Bogen for a second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:41.65.
The men saw
Zach Nelson swim a program-best time of 4:15.45 in the 400-yard individual medley, placing fifth in the event. He also swam the fourth-fastest time in Loras history in the preliminaries of the 500-yard freestyle (4:51.26) and 200-yard butterfly (2:01.22).
Tim LaGrange also moved into the record books for the Duhawks after he placed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.40 to rank him fourth all-time in the event.
The men's team finished sixth and the women's team finished eighth. Coe College won the women's team championship and Illinois Institute of Technology won the men's title. Loras set four program records this season under the direction of first-year head coach
Nick Wyllie.
