ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Mar. 11, 2020) – The Loras College women's lacrosse team (3-1) came away victorious in its first overtime thriller of the season as the Duhawks battled through a back and forth contest against Augustana College (1-2) on Wednesday evening to come away with the 13-12 win against the Vikings.
The Vikings tallied a pair of goals to open the game but

Olivia Flynn and
Pearl Mueller went on a run to give Loras a 5-3 lead with 14:49 left in the first half. Augustana rallied back with two goals to tie the game with 12:28 remaining in the half and neither team could break through the other's defense until Brunn found space and the back of the net to give Loras the 6-5 lead going into the locker room.
Brunn opened the second half of the game with a goal off an assist from Flynn and
Erin Conley scored under a minute later to grow the Duhawks' lead, 8-5. Two goals from Flynn helped the Duhawks pull ahead 10-7 but a run by the Vikings over the next five minutes gave Augustana the 11-10 lead with 9:25 remaining. Flynn once again scored to tie the game with 7:07 on the clock but a minute later, Kathryn Hettiger scored her seventh goal of the night to put Augustana in the lead with six minutes to play.
There was an offensive stall for the next four minutes as the Vikings worked to control the ball and their lead while Loras worked to fight back for the lead. With 2:42 remaining, Brunn connected with Flynn for her sixth goal of the game and the defense held steady as time expired and both teams prepared for overtime.
The Vikings won the opening draw control in overtime but turned it over and the Duhawks took control on the offensive end. With 1:59 on the clock, Conley drew a free position shot and sent it past the goalie, giving the Duhawks the win.
Flynn led the team with six goals, eight ground balls, three caused turnovers, and four draw controls while both Brunn and Wolf added two assists.
Kayla Tilkes also added three caused turnovers and Mueller came away with four draw controls. In goal,
Lydia Phelps made 11 saves to come away with the win.
Loras' next game is against Benedictine University on Saturday, Mar. 14 in Lisle, Ill. Game time is set for 1 P.M.
