Duhawks Showcase Depth; Win Season Opener in Pella

PELLA, Iowa (Sept. 12, 2020) – The Loras College men's cross country program's all-time list saw multiple updates on Saturday after the Duhawks won the season opener at Central College on Saturday with a full-team effort which helped the Duhawks' claim the individual champion and three freshman make their marks in the scoring five.

Luke Guttormson returned as the Duhawks' leading runner, winning the 6,000-meter race with a time of 19:25.2 which puts him eighth on the Loras all-time list. Freshman Evan Jamrozy started his college career with a top-ten time as well, placing second overall with a time of 19:31.4 to rank ninth in program history. Joey Schultz had an excellent start to his senior season with a third-place finish (19:45.5) and Ryan Harvey finished fourth in his collegiate debut with a time of 19:50.1. Freshman Will Yasdick rounded out the scoring for the Duhawks, posting a sixth place finish with a time of 20:04.7.

Wyatt Kelly on Yasdick's heels, finishing seventh with a time of 20:04.8 and Ethan Hammerand placed eighth with a time of 20:06.9.

Loras won the dual meet in nearly perfect fashion, scoring 16 points to Central's 47 points.

The Duhawks' next race will be on their home course in Dubuque on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 2 P.M when they host the University of Dubuque and Simpson College.
