Jan. 13, 2021 – Facing a familiar foe from four days prior in the first home event of the new year, the Loras College women's basketball team (1-1) came back from a first-half deficit and defended Lillis Court on Wednesday, scoring a 92-84 victory against Concordia University Wisconsin (1-1).
Madison Haslow opened the scoring for the Duhawks with a three-pointer off the assist from
Jessica Coulthard before the two teams traded points for first half of the period. Coulthard tied the game 7-7 with a layup and Haslow followed suit with another three-pointer to extend the lead. The Falcons kept the score tight throughout the remainder of the period and edged a 15-14 lead going in to the second quarter.
The Falcons kept the scoring going to start the second period, but
Cierra Bachmann put up a three-pointer and a layup to put Loras ahead 19-17. Concordia Wisconsin started to pull away and took a five-point lead with 7:02 left in the half but a three-pointer from
Sydney Schuler off the pass from
Jaime Ryan brought the Duhawks within two points.
Jaime Ryan hit a three-pointer with 5:24 left in the half to put a halt to Concordia Wisconsin's scoring run, but the Falcons found momentum to close out the half with a 41-35 lead.
Allie Brownson helped the Duhawks come out strong in the second half with a three-pointer and Bachmann and
Lydia Breunig kept it going with a pair of free throws and a layup. Loras had the Falcons within reach to start the half and with 5:45 to play in the third period,
Sami Martin hit a three-pointer off a pass from Bachmann and Bruenig scored the go-ahead layup 30 seconds later. Concordia Wisconsin tied the game with 5:01 in the quarter, starting a back and forth battle for the next three minutes but held on to hold a one-point 60-59 advantage over the Duhawks going into the final ten minutes.
Just as she had started the game, Haslow started the final period with a three-pointer and a layup by Bachmann with 7:25 left to play in the game gave Loras a 70-66 lead.
