Swim and Dive Opens 2020-21 Season in Historic Fashion

Jan. 23, 2021 - The 2020-21 swim and dive season kicked off Saturday afternoon at San Jose Pool as Loras College hosted Coe College in a Liberal Arts Conference dual meet. The men pulled away with a historic 115-110 victory over the Kohawks, marking the first time since 2014 the Duhawks defeated Coe. 

Loras dominated the 200 yard medley relay events with both men and women posting first place finishes. The women's relay team of Nina Schiro, Kinsey Bogen, Sarah Shafer and Taylor Hrabak recorded a 1:58.77 time while Andrew Gainer, Tim LaGrange, John Lynch IV and Charles Holmes turned in a 1:44.85 finish in the men's race. 

Shafer continued her impressive outing for the Duhawks in the 50 yard freestyle, earning a second place finish with her 26.21 time, a mere 0.16 seconds behind Coe's Darby Manternach. The Duhawks claimed the top two spots in the 200 yard backstroke with Shafer picking up a win on the day finishing in 2:19.31 with Schiro following close behind in second with her 2:20.34 time. 

Freshman Brad LaGrange started his career as a Duhawks on a high note, crushing the 1,000 yard freestyle with an 11:13.87 first place finish. LaGrange continued to add to the team point total in the 100 yard freestyle, claiming second recording a 51.01 time. LaGrange and older brother Tim teamed up with Lynch IV and Izaak Miller in the 200 yard freestyle, earning nine points with their 1:34.88 win. 

In the diving events, Nicholas Schlader defeated Coe's Taven Floyd, picking up 127.9 points in the first event and 161.10 points in the second. Marissa Schroeder competed in the first event for the women, posting 91.05 points for a second place finish. 

Loras returns to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 30 for a dual meet at Luther College. Events are slated to begin at 1 PM.
