DECORAH, Iowa (Jan. 30, 2021) - The Loras College swim and dive team faced tough competition at Luther College on Saturday, but saw five swimmers win their respective events and a strong performance in the men's 200 yard freestyle relay.

Senior Sarah Shafer led the women's team earning victories in the 100 yard backstroke, posting a 1:01.47 time and in the 50 yard freestyle, finishing in 26.31. Nina Schiro followed Shafer's lead in the 50 yard freestyle, finishing second in 27.26 to earn 13 team points for the Duhawks. Schiro won an event of her own in the 200 yard backstroke, defeating Luther's Margaret Petellin with her 2:17.98 time. Kinsey Bogen earned another nine team points for Loras with her 1:17.49 finish in the 100 yard breaststroke.

In the men's events, the Duhawks won three events, including a major victory in the 200 yard freestyle relay. The relay group of Brad LaGrange, brother Tim LaGrange, John Lynch IV and Andrew Gainer finished in 1:33.48 to add 11 points to the team total. This same group played a key role in solidifying a historic win for the Duhawks last weekend against Coe College.

T. LaGrange saw success in individual events as well, tying Luther's Jack Meehan for first place in the 100 yard breaststroke with a 1:01.47 time. Gainer also won an individual event of his own in the 100 yard freestyle, recording a 52.41 finish.

Luther edged the Duhawks 186-87 on the women's side and 190.5-95.5 on the men's.

The Duhawks return to San Jose Pool on Friday, Feb. 5 as they take on Nebraska Wesleyan University. The meet is set to begin at 6 PM.
