Oct. 23, 2021 – The Loras College swim and dive teams had their first competitive home meet of the season against Knox College this Saturday. Strong performance from both teams also helped the Duhawks earn their first victories on the season.
The Duhawks took first for both men's and women's 200 yard medley relay, with men taking second as well, earning them 15 total points for the event.
Zach Nelson and
Brad LaGrange both finished with two first place finishes for individual events on the day. On the women's side, Nina Schiro and Amber Forbort also took home two events a piece.
The Duhawks had strong performance in both the men's and women's 50 yard freestyle as well. Ann Quinn and
Charles Holmes both received first place finishes with times of 28.28 and 24.25 respectively. Kendra Sirianni finished in second for the women, while
Kevin McMillan, second, and
Brian Day, third, also received points for the men.
Amber Forbort handily won the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:36.96. On the men's side, the Duhawks swept the event earning a total of 16 points. The Duhawks also swept in diving with Tanner Carter receiving a 68.75, earning 9 points for the women. The men received 26 total points from the performances of both
Gannon Harrington, first, and
Nicholas Schlader, second.
The men and women also swept the 100 yard butterfly. The women earned 13 points on the event with the men earning 16. The men and women finished with the top three places in the 100 yard freestyle with Kendra Sirianni and
Brian Day leading the way for the Duhawks.
Jon Broas finished first in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.04, narrowly ahead of fellow Duhawk,
Cole Rabedeaux, who finished with a 1:05.12. The women's 500 yard freestyle saw Talor Hrabak and Molly Strohmeyer dominate with times of 6:03.98 and 6:07.00. Artie Kerchmar earned herself a first place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke, earning 9 points for the Duhawks. For the men,
Brad LaGrange and
Charles Holmes finished first and second.
The Duhawks finished the meet strong with the women's 200 yard freestyle relay team consisting of Amber Forbort, Ann Quinn, Nina Schiro, and Molly Strohmeyer finishing first with a time of 1:50.20. The men's team also took home first with
Payton Markowski,
Zach Nelson, Christopher Grunke, and
Gannon Harrington finishing in 1:42.99.
The Duhawks dominated the meet with the women beating the Prairie Fire 139-32 and the men 166.5-20.5. Both teams are looking to continue their form against the Kohawks from Coe College next Friday, Oct. 29 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The meet is scheduled to start at 6:30 PM.
