DECORAH, Iowa (Oct. 30, 2021) – Running a strong team race from start to finish, the No. 18-Loras College men's cross country team posted a second-place team finish at the 2021 American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Championship on Saturday, headlined by
Ryan Harvey,
Luke Guttormson and
Julian Watson claiming All-Conference honors to help the Duhawks place all five scoring runners among the top-20 finishers.
Harvey finished third overall, running 25:13.6 for the 8,000-meter course, charging down the homestretch to hold off Morgan Shirley-Fairbain from Wartburg College at the line. Guttormson came through in ninth, running 25:44.6 and in his first conference championship race, Watson ran with confidence for a 12th-place finish (25:51.4) to round out Loras' All-Conference scorers.
Joey Schultz came in as the fourth-scorer for the Duhawks just outside All-Conference range, placing 16th with a time of 25:57.2 and
Evan Jamrozy capped off the scoring in 18th, running 25:59.2. The Duhawks sixth and seventh runners were
Wyatt Kelly (26:22.8) and
Will Yasdick (26:29.9), placing 18th and 30th, respectively.
No. 1-ranked Wartburg posted a near-perfect score of 20 to defend the team title, led by Joe Freiburger setting the course record in 25:04.3. RV Simpson College came in third with 80 points and three top-20 runners.
The Duhawks now shift their focus to the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championship on Saturday, Nov. 13 in Rock Island, Ill. Races at Saukie Golf Course are set to begin at 11 A.M.
