Nov. 17, 2021 – The Loras College men's basketball team (3-0, 0-0 A-R-C) set the tone early in its non-conference matchup against Greenville University (0-4, 0-0 SLIAC) on Wednesday, setting two program records with the help of a 30-point performance by
Jackson Kolinski and standout performances by freshmen
Alex Singleton and
Tyler Bass en route to a 166-74 win inside the Patrick J. Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center.
Rowan McGowen started the game in the best way he knows with a three-pointer off a pass from
Myles Barry but Greenville took a brief lead off a pair of three-pointers to pull ahead 10-7. Sitting Kolinski and Singleton under the basket, the Duhawks connected with Kolinski and Singleton to spark a 21-point barrage over the next two minutes, pulling away 38-14 with 13:02 left in the first half. Kolinski and Singleton continued to put up points for Loras and
Cole Navigato joined in off the long ball pass for a dunk, keeping the streak going as
Tyler Bass added a dunk of his own to give the Duhawks a 58-17 advantage with just under nine to go. The Duhawks' offense was unrelenting for the second part of the half as a trio of layups by Kolinski ended the half with Loras ahead 97-39.
McGowen kept it hot from three-point range to start the second half, this time off the pass from
Griffen Clark to put Loras into the triple digits. He added back-to-back three pointers to give the Duhawks a 70-point lead, 118-48 and Navigato posted up under the basket for a pair of dunks to keep the energy rolling with 13 minutes to play. The Duhawks limited any opportunity for Greenville to get back into the game with a 30-18 run in the final ten minutes, including first career points for
Connor Webb,
Kiks Rosengarten,
Jared Pearson, and
Kyle Maybrun.
Kolinski had a career-best 30 points, shooting 14-15 from the field and grabbed four while Singleton was perfect all night with 24 points, going 10-10 from the field and 4-4 at the line. Bass added 22 points with 10-10 field goal shooting and had six rebounds while McGowen led the team with five three-pointers and nine rebounds for 17 points.
Ali Sabet came in as a playmaker for the Duhawks and dished out ten assists.
The Duhawks had 18 players score in the win and the bench contributed 100 of the team's record-setting 166 points. The preview highest scoring game was 165 points in 2017 against Macalester College (165) and the 92-point margin of victory was a program-best, previously 71 in 2017. As a team, Loras shot 60 percent from beyond the arc and 79 percent from the field.
The Duhawks begin American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) action on Tuesday, Nov. 23., hosting Simpson College at 7:30 P.M.
