Nov. 27, 2021 – Coming off its American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) opening victory earlier in the week, the Loras College men's basketball team (5-0, 1-0 A-R-C) added another win to its perfect start, defeating Concordia University Wisconsin (1-4, 0-0 NACC) 89-66 on Saturday inside the Patrick J. Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center to improve to 5-0 on the season.
Rowan McGowen put the Duhawks on the board first with a three-pointer on the opening possession and
Jackson Kolinski added a layup to put Loras up 5-0 in the first minute. The Falcons continued to challenge the lead, coming within one with 12 minutes to play in the first half but
Ali Sabet sparked an 8-0 run to stymie any momentum for Concordia Wisconsin as the Duhawks controlled the tempo for the next four minutes. The Falcons answered back with a three-pointer with 7:14 left on the clock and came back within one, 30-31, with 4:05 remaining. A jumper for Sabet followed by a three-pointer for the sophomore helped give the Duhawks a nine-point cushion, 39-30 with 1:30 remaining and took a 41-33 lead into the break following a layup by Kolinski.
McGowen opened the second half as he had the first with another three-pointer to give Loras its first double-digit lead of the contest and back-to-back three-pointers by
Griffen Clark opened up the scoring and put the Duhawks up 56-39 five minutes into the half. Concordia Wisconsin found a surge and cut the lead to only six with under 12 left to play but five points by Sabet and three-straight three-pointers for Clark ignited the Duhawks on offense, taking a 79-55 lead with 5:39 left in the game. McGowen added a three-pointer and layup to grow the lead and close the door on Concordia Wisconsin, remaining undefeated with an 89-66 win.
Sabet let the Duhawks with 20 points, going 4-8 from three-point range and both Clark and McGowen had great nights from downtown, with Clark scoring 15 points off 5-8 three-point shooting and McGowen adding 14 points with four three-pointers.
Declan Ciurlik had a team-high nine rebounds and shared the lead with
Jake Healy with three assists. Kolinski added 13 points with a perfect 6-6 night from the field.
The Duhawks look to keep the hot streak alive and continue American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play on Wednesday, Dec. 1, traveling to Cedar Rapids to play Coe College. Tip-off is set for 7:30 P.M.
