WAVERLY, IOWA (Apr. 30, 2021) – Continuing to set the pace as the conference championship and postseason draws near, the No. 8-ranked
Loras College men's track and field team saw is 4-by-400-meter relay team set the fastest time in Division III this season at the Wartburg College Friday Night Lights Meet in addition to three individual event wins in Waverly.
The 4-by-100-meter relay of
Shamari Scott,
Nate Sielaff,
Jake Willkomm and
Josh Smith finished third in the race with a season-best time of 41.84 seconds, ranking sixth all-time for the Duhawks and the relay energy kept going to the end of the meet when a big final leg by
Mike Jasa led the 4-by-400-meter relay quartet of Scott, Smith, and
Ted Kruse to a winning time of 3:12.08, good for second all-time and No. 1 in Division III.
Scott won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.38 seconds and
Ted Kruse finished second with a personal best time of 54.69 seconds, moving him into the program top-ten list at No. 10. Jasa's personal best performance of 48.54 seconds in the 400-meter dash was good for second in the event and move him into No. 6 on Loras' all-time list.
Ryan Harvey continued to showcase his versatility in the distance events, placing third in the 1,500-meter run with the fifth-fastest time in program history (3:52.63) which ranks him tied for 11th nationally and Smith added a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash (21.97 seconds).
In the field events,
Alex Martens won the high jump, matching his lifetime-best 1.96 meters and
Matt Bandy added a third-place finish, clearing 1.91 meters.
Ryan Rogers won the long jump with a jump of 6.92 meters and added a third-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (14.91 seconds) and third in the pole vault (4.61 meters).
Derik Bunten (13.21 meters) and
Doyle Carroll (13.13 meters) finished second and third, respectively, in the triple jump.
No. 2-ranked Wartburg won the meet with 243 points followed by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in second with 187 and the Duhawks in third with 151.5 points.
The Duhawks are back in action on Friday, May 7 inside the Rock Bowl for the Dr. Tucker Open. Running events begin at 2:00 P.M with field events before.
