Sept. 18, 2021 - Playing on their home turf for the first time in two weeks, the No. 20 Loras College women's soccer team (6-0-1, 0-0-0 A-R-C) squared off against the Titans from Illinois Wesleyan University (1-5-0, 0-0-0 CCIW) on Saturday evening in the Rock Bowl. After the score remained tied at two apiece,
Abby Eriksen scored her second goal of the game in double overtime to give the Duhawks their third straight win.
The game was scoreless through the first 30 minutes of the game before the Duhawks were awarded a corner kick in the 30th minute.
Payton McDonnell lined up a perfect ball into the box where
Caitlin Farrell put a touch on the ball for her second goal of the season, giving the Duhawks a 1-0 advantage going into halftime.
The Titans came out of the half time break aggressive, and it soon paid off as Caelyn Steffens netted the Titan's first goal of the game in the 52nd minute to tie the game at 1-1.
Shortly after in the 63rd minute,
Brynn Jacobi charged down the field and fed a great ball to the feet of Eriksen who tucked it into the back of the net for her first goal of the game, giving Loras a one goal lead midway through the second half.
In the closing minutes of regulation, Illinois Welsyean's Rachel White took a corner kick and found Tegan Timerman, who tied the game up with just five minutes to play, forcing the game into overtime.
One overtime period proved to not be enough to decide a winner, so to a second overtime the two teams went. But three minutes into the second overtime, McDonnell again lined up for a corner kick and found Eriksen's head to seal the deal on a 3-2 victory to remain unbeaten at 6-0-1.
Eriksen showed she can only score in pairs, as Saturday's game marks her third two-goal game of the season, bringing her total to a team-leading six on the year. Loras outshot Illinois Wesleyan by a 21-16 margin, but both teams rifled off nine shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper
Kyndal Kells made seven saves on the night, securing her sixth win of the season in net.
The Duhawks are back in action on Monday, Sept. 20 as they play host to Bethel College in another non-conference matchup. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM at the Rock Bowl.
