Jan. 13, 2022 - In their first dual of 2022, the No. 2 Loras College wrestling team (7-0, 2-0 A-R-C) played host to American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) foe No. 12 Central College in a top-25 dual at the Patrick J. Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center Thursday night. The Duhawks kept their winning streak rolling with a commanding 35-6 victory over the Dutch to improve to 7-0 in dual action thus far in the season.
Jared Hensley, kicked the dual off in the 125 lb. matchup against Central's Anthony Posas, Jr., seeing the 12th-ranked Hensley put six points on the board for Loras with a second period pin to bring up
Aiden Evans at 133 lbs. Evans squared off with Chase Poston and ran the score up to a final 12-3 to earn a major decision and bring the score to 10-0 after the first two matches.
At 141 lbs., No. 8-ranked
Jalen Schropp earned a shutout decision victory over Brock Beck, seeing
Daniel Meeker and Duncan Delzell go toe-to-toe in the 149 lb. matchup where Central's Delzell won by an 8-5 mark to win their first match of the night.
No. 9-ranked
Zeke Smith and Luke Condy battled in the 157 lbs. match, seeing Condy score first on a takedown but Smith fought back and scored nine straight to take a 9-2 decision and add another three points to the board for the Duhawks. At 165 lbs., No. 15-ranked
Gabe Fiser racked up 20 points on Central's Christian Wilson to take a 20-6 major decision to widen the lead even further.
Central went on to forfeit at 174 lbs. to give the Duhawks six free points before No. 2-ranked
Shane Liegel earned a first period pin over Peyton Hammerich bring the team score to 32-3 with two matches to go in the dual.
At 197 lbs., No 15-ranked
Colin Murphy met up with Gage Linahon and took the win by a 7-4 decision before
Brady Vogel and Sam Zook battled in the heavyweight matchup to close out the dual. Zook score a takedown in the first period but that would be the only time he scored in the match, seeing Vogel tie the score at two apiece with seconds to go, but Zook carried the riding time advance to narrowly escape with a 3-2 decision to bring the final score to 35-6.
The Duhawks are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 15 as they travel to Mount Vernon, Iowa to compete in the Cliff Keen Mike Duroe Invite, hosted by Cornell College. Competition is scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM.
