No. 22 Men's Cross Country Places Sixth at Pre-Nationals

EAST LANSING, Mich. (Oct. 1, 2022) – Luke Guttormson and Ryan Harvey posted top-25 finishes to lead the No. 22-ranked Loras College men's cross country team to a sixth-place finish among a field comprised of many of Division III's best programs on Saturday at the Pre-Nationals Meet at Forest Akers Golf Course.

The Duhawks got a chance to race the course that will host the 2022 NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championship in November and race against many of the teams that anticipate making the trip back to Michigan for the season finale. Guttormson crossed the line first in 21st, completing the 8-kilometer course in 25:14.3. Not far behind him was Harvey in 23rd with a time of 25:17.9. Julian Watson added a 39th-place finish with a time of 25:33.5 and Wyatt Kelly finished 52nd with a time of 25:51.3. Jacob Belha was the final scorer for Loras in 68th, running 26:02.2 and Will Whalen (26:34.1) and Brandon Doser (26:44.5) were the sixth and seventh runners for the Duhawks in 111th and 120th, respectively.

No. 2-ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology took the team title with 62 points, followed by No. 5-ranked North Central College as the runner-up with 98 points and No. 3 University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in third with 108 points. The Duhawks beat out No. 15-ranked Otterbein College in seventh by 19 points and No. 20-ranked University of Chicago who took eighth in the team race.

Loras takes a week off from racing before heading to Augustana College on Saturday, Oct. 15. The men's race at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill. is set to begin at 11 A.M.
