Guttormson Sets Program Record at Augustana on Saturday

October 15, 2022

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Oct. 15, 2022) – Four Loras College men's cross country student-athletes took part in the men's varsity race at the Augustana Interregional Invitational on Saturday morning as senior Luke Guttormson paced the 18th-ranked Duhawks with a 30th-place finish and a new program record.

Guttormson's 8k time of 24:29.8 unseeded a 19-year-old program record that has been held by Marcus Murphy since 2003. Guttormson outdid Murphy's 24:33 mark by just over three seconds to take the top spot on the Duhawk record book.

Senior Wyatt Kelly was not far off Guttormson's pace as he came home 37th overall with a 24:35.3 that moves him to third place on the program's record book behind only Guttormson and Murphy.

Guttormson and Kelly were just two of four Loras runners to take part in the varsity race on Saturday morning, keeping the Duhawks out of contention for team scoring. They were joined by junior Ryan Harvey (85th – 25:19.9) and sophomore Jacob Belha (107th – 25:33.6) in the varsity race that featured 276 runners at the Saukie Golf Course on Saturday morning.

Saturday's meet marked the last regular season event for the Duhawks as their attention now shifts to the postseason. The next race for Loras will be Saturday, Oct.29 in Indianola, Iowa at the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Championship meet.
