Men Take Down Coe, Women Fall in Friday Night Swimming & Diving Meet

October 21, 2022

Oct. 21, 2022 – Loras College's men's and women's swimming and diving programs faced a familiar foe at home on Friday night as the two squads split with Coe College in the second event of the regular season.

The Duhawk men claimed a convincing 14-55 win over the Kohawks to improve to 2-0 on the young season while the Duhawk women dropped the close head-to-head battle 124-92.

Freshman Caden Gillmore continued to impress early on in his collegiate career as he won both of his individual races and contributed to one of Loras' two relay victories. Gillmore took first place in each 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly events, with the former being by a narrow half-second margin over teammate Charles Holmes.

Gillmore and Holmes were a part of the men's 200-yard freestyle relay team, along with Austin Jorgensen and Brad LaGrange, that claimed the win in the final event of the day with a 1:34.28 final time.

Jorgensen earned a win in the 500-yard freestyle race while freshman Joey Kock took first place in the 100-yard freestyle race to help lift Loras to the win. Junior diver Gannon Harrington was also tops in the 1-meter dive to help the Duhawk cause.

On the women's side, junior Annie Quinn claimed victory in both of her individual races, taking both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle races over Kohawk competitors. Both races were down to the wire as Quinn just barely managed to win the 50-yard race by 0.21 seconds.

Nina Schiro won the 100-yard backstroke race while Taylor Hrabak topped the 500-yard freestyle chart as the two seniors had solid evenings for the Duhawk women's squad.

The two Loras teams are on the road next weekend for the first time in 2022-23 as they will take on Simpson College at 1 P.M. in Indianola, Iowa.
