STORM LAKE, Iowa (Oct. 22, 2022) – There's just no stopping the No. 17/14 Loras College women's soccer team lately as the Duhawks rattled off yet another shutout victory on Saturday afternoon to officially clinch one of the top two seeds in the upcoming American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Tournament.
The Duhawks (13-0-3, 7-0 A-R-C) stayed unbeaten on the year with their sixth consecutive shutout victory as they topped the Buena Vista University Beavers (4-11, 0-7 A-R-C) 6-0 on Saturday. This one was all about the Duhawks as they outshot the opposition 18-1 with half of their shots being on target.
Scoring early has been commonplace for the Duhawks lately, and they stuck to that theme with a goal in the eighth minute of the game versus the Beavers as sophomore
Reagan Lindsay netted the first goal of her collegiate career.
Not long after that, the team's assist leader in senior midfielder
Payton McDonnell joined the scoring barrage, finishing her second goal of the season in the 13
th minute. Senior forward
Ryleigh O'Brien cashed in on her 17
th goal of the season in the 29
th minute as senior defender
Olivia Lansing notched the assist.
McDonnell added another score to her line in the 33
rd minute, giving her four goals on the season and making this the first multi-goal game of her storied Duhawk career.
Loras added on twice in the second half as senior forward
Abby Eriksen got her 11
th goal of the season on an assist from Lindsay. That led into freshman defender
Katie Callahan's goal in the 60
th minute – the second of her career – on sophomore forward
Lauren Riggle's fourth assist of 2022.
The win gives Loras 21 points in the A-R-C standings with just one game to play as No. 7 Wartburg College sits at second place with 19 points. Wartburg and Loras will face off in the regular-season finale on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 5 P.M. in Dubuque with the regular-season championship on the line. Loras can earn the No. 1 seed in the A-R-C Tournament with a win or a tie. Â
