Guttormson, Kelly, and Watson Lead No. 26 Duhawks to Second Place Finish at A-R-C Championships

INDIANOLA, Iowa (Oct. 29, 2022) – A trio of Loras College men's cross cross country runners garnered All-Conference honors at the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Championships on Saturday morning to lift the 26th-ranked Duhawks to a runner-up finish.

Seniors Luke Guttormson, Wyatt Kelly, and sophomore Julian Watson each finished inside the top-seven at the Simpson College Cross Country Course in Pickard Park in Indianola, Iowa to earn All-Conference honors. As a team, the Duhawks tallied a score of 50 and placed second to No. 5 Wartburg College with 26. Luther College (83), Central College (99), and Simpson College (126) rounded out the top five.

Guttormson finished as the race runner-up with a 25:00.7 time, trailing only Wartburg's Christopher Collet by close to 30 seconds. The top-two finish earns Guttormson the third All-Conference honor of his career.

Kelly and Watson were close behind in sixth and seventh places, respectively, to land inside the top-10. The two crossed the line side-by-side as Kelly clocked a 25:23.4 to Watson's 25:23.7. The All-Conference honor for Kelly is the first of his career while Watson garnered the honor for the second time is his two seasons as a Duhawk.

 A quartet of Duhawks rounded out the team top-seven with finished between 19th and 23rd places. Junior Carlo Dannenfelser (19th – 25:55.4), sophomore Jacob Belha (20th – 25:57.9), and seniors Will Whalen (21st – 25.57.9) and Brandon Doser (23rd – 26:02.8) all finished within eight seconds of one another to score team points.

No. 26 Loras will continue with postseason action in two weeks when the Duhawks take on the NCAA Midwest Region Championship on Saturday, Nov. 12, in Aurora, Ill.
